About the guesthouse

When we dreamed up Messzelátó Guest House, our desire was to create a nature-oriented retreat where our guests could truly relax, slow down, and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A place where they could experience all this in the company of their loved ones – in peace, harmony and close to nature. 💚

🏡 The house

Our guest house is located in Kesztölc, at the foot of the Pilis Mountains, in a quiet, peaceful village. Built on the site of a former wine press house, the log cabin can comfortably accommodate 6-8 guests at a time, offering a relaxing stay close to nature.

On the ground floor of the house, there is a spacious kitchen-dining room and a bathroom with a shower. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for cooking together: an electric oven, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher, and an automatic coffee machine, for which we also provide coffee beans. ☕

Upstairs, there is one large and two smaller bedrooms, as well as a bathroom with a bathtub. In the large room, a home theater system ensures complete relaxation.

On the top floor, in the attic, there is a cozy room with two single beds – a favorite of children and adults who are young at heart. 💫

The most popular part of our accommodation is undoubtedly the wellness area:

All three offer beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, so you can enjoy the scenery of Pilis from any of them. Safe bathing is guaranteed by a “public bath license.” ✅

🍷 Common areas and recreation

Adjacent to the house is a large summer kitchen with a barbecue grill, foosball table, tables, and benches—the ideal place for a communal dinner or evening conversation. In bad weather, you can also cook outdoors here.

The terrace under the walnut tree exudes peace in both winter and summer, and from here it is almost difficult to decide where to rest your gaze.

In the wine cellar under the guest house, you can taste a bottle or two of our own wines – because for us, this is also part of recharging your batteries. 🍇

🌳 The garden and surroundings

The nearly 8,000 m² panoramic garden is home to fruit trees, vineyards, and huge green relaxation areas. Here, it’s really just you – silence, space, and nature.

It is important to note that our guest house is not suitable for loud parties or events – we want to preserve the peace and quiet of nature for those living nearby. 🌿

Unfortunately, we cannot accept pets, thank you for your understanding.

About Kesztölc

No, no, Kesztölc was not only home to a wallpaper factory… (However, you can read an interesting article about it here.)

This picturesque village and the surrounding Klastrompuszta area, located at the southwestern foot of the Pilis Mountains, are steeped in legend.

It was in this wonderful place, sometime in 1250, that Blessed Özséb, after retreating to the caves here, had a vision that inspired him to gather the hermits of the area and form a community. This is how the only Hungarian-founded monastic order, the Pauline Order, was formed, and the monastery was built here, the ruins of which can be seen in Klastrompuszta.

During the reign of Maria Theresa, Slovak settlers were brought to Kesztölc, and a significant part of the population still has Slovak roots today.

Kesztölc is also famous for its wine production, with vineyards on the southern slopes of the Pilis Mountains forming the easternmost part of the Neszmély wine region.

According to legend, the Republic of Kesztölc was proclaimed in 1956. The Republic is probably just a legend, but today it has become a symbol of the village’s resistance efforts.

Sights and excursion possibilities nearby

The Pilis Mountains offer many wonders in every season, which can be enjoyed on foot, on two wheels, or even on horseback. There are hiking trails in the immediate vicinity of the guesthouse. Here is a list of our favorite destinations, though it is by no means exhaustive:

Esztergom is easily accessible from our guesthouse, where you can admire one of Europe’s largest cathedrals, the Basilica, in both winter and summer. The city’s museums, historic city center, and music festivals offer a true cultural experience, and the main attractions are just a few minutes’ walk from the banks of the Danube.

Our guesthouse requires a minimum stay of two nights; during peak periods, a minimum of three nights; and during the summer season, a minimum of five nights.

*Peak periods: “red-letter holidays” (Easter, March 15, May 1, Pentecost, August 20, fall break, November 1, Christmas, New Year’s Eve), school breaks, summer break

One-night stays are only possible on weekdays, outside of peak periods, and on days between two reservations; in such cases, a 30% surcharge will be added to the base rate.

Reservation procedure

The total cost of the service, including tourist tax, is payable in cash upon arrival or by bank transfer to our account before the working day prior to arrival, for which we will issue a personalized invoice.
We require a deposit (30% of the total fee), which must be transferred to the following account number within 3 working days of booking: Vörösváczki Márta, Erste Bank, 11600006-00000002-01525573
If the cancellation or modification is made at least 21 days before the date of arrival, no cancellation fee will be charged.
If the cancellation or modification is made after the deadline, we are unable to refund the deposit.
Our guest house can be booked for a minimum of two nights, during holiday periods for a minimum of three nights, and during the summer holidays for a minimum of five nights.
Peak periods: school holidays, March 15, Easter, May 1, Pentecost, October 23, November 1, Christmas, New Year’s Eve.

Is it a good choice for multigenerational families?

Yes. Multigenerational families especially enjoy their stay with us. A shared getaway—such as celebrating a grandmother’s birthday—is a great opportunity to be together while still allowing everyone their own space.

Is it a good choice for groups of friends?

Yes. We often host small groups of friends who want to get away together, cook, go hiking, play board games, or even stay up talking until dawn.

Is it a good choice for families with young children?

Yes, Messzelátó Guesthouse is also popular among families with young children. It’s not too far from Budapest, and we offer more affordable rates on weekdays.

The area offers plenty of opportunities for day trips and hiking, but we often find that our guests feel so at home here that they don’t want to leave the guesthouse grounds at all.

Here, you can truly enjoy “doing nothing” in an active way: soaking in the hot tub, enjoying the sauna, chatting, playing board games, grilling, or simply taking in the panoramic view.

Is the guesthouse suitable for retreats, yoga camps, and women’s circles?

Our experience shows that those who choose the guesthouse as a venue for a women’s retreat, yoga camp, or Pilates camp tend to book it for the next available date.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that two of our rooms have double beds, so we don’t recommend it for participants who are meeting for the first time.

We apply our standard rates for retreats as well.

How far is the Messzelátó Guesthouse from Budapest?

The Messzelátó Guesthouse is located about 40 km from Budapest, so it takes roughly 1 hour to get there by car—depending, of course, on traffic and where in Budapest you’re starting from.

If you’d like to get away from the city but don’t want to spend hours traveling, the Messzelátó Guesthouse is a great choice for a weekend getaway or even a short midweek break.

Is Messzelátó Guesthouse kid-friendly?

Yes. We’ve made every effort to equip the house and garden so that families traveling with young children can relax in comfort.

The house features:

a travel crib with a coconut-fiber mattress,
a safety gate,
a high chair,
safety gates on the stairs,
toilet seat reducer,
step stool,
potty,
a few indoor toys.

And in the garden:

swing,
slide,
trampoline,
sandbox,
small motorcycles in various sizes.

If we’re traveling with children, how are the rates calculated?

For example, if two adults arrive with a baby and a five-year-old child, the rate is calculated as follows:

Weekdays: 65,000 HUF/night + free for the baby + 5,000 HUF/night
On weekends, the price is 95,000 Ft, even for two people.
Due to the significant price difference, we recommend that guests traveling with infants or preschool-aged children choose our more affordable weekday rates.

Is the guesthouse suitable for digital nomads and remote workers?

Absolutely! The guesthouse has stable, fiber-optic internet. While there isn’t a dedicated workspace inside the guesthouse, there are countless spots throughout the house and in the garden where you can set up shop with your laptop.

Is the guesthouse wheelchair-accessible?

Unfortunately, no. The house is located on a hillside, and there are stairs both in the garden and inside the house, which aren’t very wide.

Is the guesthouse accessible by public transportation?

Yes. You can take the Budapest–Esztergom train line to Leányvár Station, and from there, you can take a bus to Kesztölc.

We can also arrange a shuttle service at a pre-arranged time.

How many people can the guesthouse comfortably accommodate?

The house is most comfortable for 6 people, but we can accommodate up to 8 people in beds.

One of the rooms also has a sofa bed that can sleep one additional adult, so with prior arrangement, we can accommodate up to 9 people.

When considering the number of guests, please note that there are two bathrooms and two toilets available, while the dining table comfortably seats 6 people. In good weather, the terrace and summer kitchen can, of course, comfortably accommodate more people.

We can provide a crib if you’re traveling with a baby.

How are the rooms and beds arranged?

Floor

If necessary, the single bed can be moved from the large room to this room.

Attic

The attic room has 2 single beds, which can be pushed together.

Since it is an attic room, the ceiling is lower, so we recommend it primarily for children or adults who enjoy a cozy, cozy atmosphere.

Can only the entire guesthouse be booked?

Yes, you can have exclusive use of the Messzelátó Guesthouse.

You won’t have to share the house, the garden, or the wellness area with other guests.

Is the wellness area private?

Yes. The hot tub and Finnish sauna are for the exclusive use of our current guests.

The hot tub feels just like being at a spa, except here you don’t have to share it with anyone. 😊

One of the highlights of the wellness area is the built-in hot tub with a panoramic view and the Finnish sauna with a panoramic view.

Can the hot tub and pool be used year-round?

The pool is open seasonally, from June through September.

You can use the hot tub, which can be heated up to 40 °C, year-round, and the Finnish sauna is also available year-round.

We didn’t want to sacrifice the panoramic view, so the hot tub is not covered. In case of rain, you can pull large umbrellas over it.

Are small pets allowed?

Unfortunately, we generally do not accept pets.

There are several reasons for this: the house has a lot of carpeting, so we cannot guarantee a comfortable stay for guests allergic to pet dander.

In addition, the garden is huge and not fenced in on all sides, so a dog could easily wander off.

Do you provide meals?

The guesthouse is self-catering, so we do not provide meals.

However, if requested, we’d be happy to help you purchase a cheese platter from local producers.

If you’re arriving on the weekend, we recommend visiting the Saturday morning farmers’ market in Kesztölc, and on Sunday morning, the Apis-Farm Market in Piliscsév.

The nearest restaurants are in Dorog and Esztergom, and home delivery is available from several places.

How well-equipped is the kitchen?

We’ve tried to equip the kitchen with all the cookware and utensils you might need during your stay.

Among other things, the kitchen includes:

a refrigerator with a freezer,
a kettle,
a toaster,
a microwave,
an automatic coffee maker.

You’ll find basic spices in the kitchen, as well as many spices left behind by previous guests, so you won’t have to bring half your pantry with you.

The tap water is safe to drink.

What outdoor cooking options are available?

There are several options available to you in the summer kitchen.

We provide:

a grill and firewood,
a cauldron,
a cauldron stand,
a gas cylinder,
a gas stove,
a griddle,
skewers for grilling bacon.

For grilling, please bring your own charcoal and aluminum trays.

Can the guesthouse be rented for just one night?

Generally, reservations are for a minimum of two nights.

One-night stays are only possible in exceptional cases—on days that remain available between two reservations—and are subject to an additional fee.

Can we host a bachelorette or bachelor party here?

The guesthouse is not suitable for loud parties or large gatherings.

However, if you’re planning a quieter, more secluded bachelorette or bachelor party, we’d be happy to welcome you.

Can we hold a wedding or event at the guesthouse?

The guesthouse is primarily intended for relaxation and gatherings with family and friends.

We cannot provide the venue for loud events or parties.

Can I pay with a SZÉP card?

Yes, we accept all three types of SZÉP cards.

Can I purchase a gift certificate?

Yes. If you’d like to give your loved ones the gift of an experience, we’ll create a personalized gift certificate that you can print at home.

We’ll issue the certificate:

in the recipient’s name,
for a date of your choice, or
for a predetermined amount.

We’ll issue the certificate.

The voucher is transferable but non-refundable.

We’ll send it to you via email, and you can pay for it with any SZÉP card.

How does the key handover and check-in work?

We’ll hand over the keys to the guesthouse in person.

Upon arrival, we’ll give you a tour of the house and take care of the necessary paperwork.

After that, we won’t disturb you during your stay, but of course, you’re welcome to contact us with any questions or requests.

What hiking opportunities are there nearby?

Klastrompuszta is located just about 3 km from the guesthouse, where you can see the ruins of the first Pauline monastery.

Several hiking trails start from here, including those leading to Kémény Rock and Legény Cave.

In addition, there are countless other excursion options to choose from in the Pilis Mountains, such as:

Pilisszentlélek,
Dobogókő,
Dera Gorge,
Holdvilág Ravine.

You’ll find a map in the house, and of course, we’d be happy to help you choose a hike in person.

Is horseback riding available in the area?

Yes. We highly recommend the programs at the Old Major Riding Stable and Petting Zoo in Piliscsév.

It’s best to schedule an appointment directly with them.

Is wine tasting available?

Yes. We’d be happy to offer you some of our own wines, but if you’d like a true local wine tasting experience, we wholeheartedly recommend the programs at Szivek Pince.

It’s best to schedule the wine tasting directly with them, preferably several weeks before your arrival.

What activities do you recommend in the area?

If you’re planning a day trip, the Pilis Mountains are worth exploring, but you can also organize full-day excursions.

Here are a few ideas:

Klastrompuszta – approx. 3 km
Esztergom – approx. 13 km
Bajnai Castle – approx. 27 km
Visegrád Castle – approx. 35 km
Danube river cruise from Esztergom
narrow-gauge train ride from Szob
horseback riding and petting zoo in Piliscsév
local wine tasting at the Szivek Winery.

You’ll find a map in the house, and we’re happy to help you choose activities based on the current weather.

What can you do if the weather is bad?

In the large covered summer kitchen, cooking together is a great activity when it rains. But if you’d like to go on an outing, Esztergom is a good choice.

We especially recommend the Danube Museum and the Geoda Interactive Mineral and Fossil Exhibition for families with children.

Esztergom offers a wide variety of activities year-round, so you don’t have to stay home just because of a day of bad weather—unless you’d prefer to. 😊

How far is Esztergom?

Esztergom is located about 13 km from the guesthouse.

Whether you’re planning a day trip, sightseeing, a museum visit, or a boat ride on the Danube, it’s worth keeping this in mind.

The Esztergom boat station is about 10 km from the guesthouse.

Is New Year’s Eve already booked?
